BERSIH

Pubblichiamo in esclusiva un intervento del nostro autore Brian Gomez sulle ultime vicende legate al movimento BERSIH, che sta conducendo una battaglia per chiedere riforme in Malesia. Dopo il “continua” la traduzione in italiano.

The BERSIH rally took place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on July 9 2011. The rally was held to demand free and fair elections in Malaysia, where the Election Commission is seen to be heavily biased in favour of the ruling government. The group BERSIH (which means “clean” in Malay) had wanted to march from the city to the palace to present a memo to King in which 8 demand were made to ensure free and fair elections. The government, however, decided to ban the group and arrested more than a thousand people on the day, claiming that the opposition had hijacked the group. This article aims to show that while it is true that the opposition had hijacked BERSIH, the government too had hijacked the group for their own agenda. It aims to show that the people can never trust politicians, who have their own agendas, and should instead listen to the views of those individuals and NGOs who are really behind BERSIH – ordinary Malaysians who simply want free and fair elections.

La marcia del movimento BERSIH è avvenuta nel centro di Kuala Lumpur il 9 luglio del 2011. La manifestazione si è tenuta per chiedere elezioni libere e giuste in Malesia, dove la Commissione elettorale è apparsa fortemente sbilanciata a favore del partito di governo. Il gruppo BERSIH (che significa “pulito” in lingua malese) voleva marciare dalla città al palazzo del Re, per presentare un documento contenente 8 richieste per assicurare elezioni libere e giuste. Nonostante questo il governo ha deciso di mettere al bando il movimento e ha arrestato più di un migliaio di persone in quel giorno, sostenendo che l’opposizione avesse manovrato il gruppo. Questo articolo vuole dimostrare che se è vero che l’opposizione ha manipolato il gruppo, lo stesso ha fatto il governo per il proprio tornaconto personale. Vuole dimostrare che le persone non possono mai fidarsi dei politici, che guardano solo ai loro interessi, invece di ascoltare il punto di vista delle persone e delle organizzazioni non governative che stanno dietro a BERSIH: normali maesiani che vogliono semplicemente elezioni libere e giuste.
